As part of the cooperative doctoral program "Windy
Cities," a winter school was organized on 21 and 22 January. The
aim was an interdisciplinary exchange based on lectures from the
projects of the doctoral program as well as lectures by external
experts. The main topics were the topics of small wind power,
chemical energy storage, and visualization.
On 21 and 22 January 2019, a two-day Winter School of the cooperative doctoral program "Windy Cities" took place on the campus of the University of Stuttgart, which is funded by the Ministry of Science, Research and Art of Baden-Württemberg.
The aim was the interdisciplinary exchange regarding various chemical energy storage solutions, the design, construction and practicality of small wind turbines and their simulations, as well as visualization approaches for data interpretation. The focus was also on providing young scientists (doctoral candidates and other members of the university) with an opportunity to learn from experts and receive valuable advice for their future work.
In addition to the colleges participating in the college, the speakers included the TU Delft (NL), The Hague University of Applied Sciences (NL), the City University of London (UK), the University of Rostock, the FAU Erlangen-Nuremberg and the DLR Stuttgart.
The field of chemical energy storage included the following lectures: "Towards a hydrogen-free hydrogen economy: chemical engineering aspects of hydrogen storage in LOHC," "CO2 Electrolysis as the key technology for the integration of renewable electricity into chemical production "and" Molecular electro catalysis and the electrochemical valorization of CO2 " The following lectures were given in Visualization: "Visual Analytics: Distributions and patterns" and "Visual Analytics of spatiotemporal data." The lectures "Not so Windy Cities but wind fits heating" and "Introduction to vertical axis wind turbine aerodynamics" rounded off the event with the topic of small wind power. Everyone, including the external experts, was in favor of a new event in this format next year.
