The Steinbeis Transfer Center Technology Consultancy (TBD) at HFT Stuttgart is a Steinbeis company (SU-0035) set up by Steinbeis Transfer GmbH (www.steinbeis.de). The latter is a public limited company and specialist for the promotion of technology transfer from universities to small and medium-sized companies. Steinbeis operates on a for-profit basis, thus enabling the university to benefit from the opportunity to offset the costs of usage and rental.
Founded in 1979, the Steinbeis TBD at HFT Stuttgart is one of the oldest Steinbeis institutions in Baden-Württemberg and the 35th overall. When Prof.Dr Volker Coors became its new Director in 2016, formal reasons necessitated the closure of SU-0035 as of the 31.12.2015 and the founding of a new Steinbeis company with the same name. This was also taken as an opportunity to shift greater emphasis onto the transfer of innovative technologies developed as part of research carried out by the Institute of Applied Science at HFT Stuttgart. In particular, expertise in two specific areas of research – “energy-efficient buildings and sustainable development” and “technologies for the processing of spatial data and simulation” – is made available for transfer to specific projects.
In addition to independent projects and contract research characterized by the opportunity to offset the costs of usage and rental, Steinbeis also carries out so-called “compact consultation” financed by the state of Baden-Württemberg.
