The Hochschule für Technik Stuttgart, founded in 1832, is located in the centre of Stuttgart, capital of the federal state of Baden-Württemberg in the south-west of Germany. Our university consists of three faculties, offering a total of 14 bachelor and 14 master programmes. At the HFT Stuttgart we specialise in teaching practical skills in small groups. 3900 students are taught by about 125 professors, who are supported by over 400 part-time lecturers.
"We designed the course on the basis of our experience with large-scale international projects, industrial processes and business consultancy – and last but not least also on our own interdisciplinary design practice". Since the launch of this successful master programme in 2001, we have continuously finetuned and further developed the programme in order to meet both the needs of the real estate and construction business and of our increasingly international students. Our mission and vision remained the same: We want our students to understand the entire lifecycle of construction projects and their considerable impact on the local built, social and cultural environment as well as on the global "house". We believe that the knowledge of "state of the art" management basics in finance and leadership is as important for good project managers as the deep comprehension of construction, infrastructure and engineering on every scale and in every discipline.
We train our students to deliver excellence – with regard to the processes they shape as well as to the product – and thus contribute to a better world; with empathy for all stakeholders and with a sense for sustainability and longevity – also in terms of design. In our understanding practical and academic approaches must complement each other on the students' way to "excellence". Recognising chan- ces and possibilities as well as problems, both requires the ability of abstraction und the adequate use of methodology. We understand communication as the essence of success since projects in all phases require the cooperation of people. Our graduates are prepared for adequate intercultural interaction in always changing project teams all over the world. We want our graduates to become real project entrepreneurs – solution-oriented mediators of planning and construction processes, enabling consultants and builders to give their best and contribute to the clients' success.
Our aim is not only to provide skills and know-ledge. Leadership responsibility for people and other people's money presumes that we plan our own lives by means of outreaching visions and clear targets. Our students have an action plan for their career. We are proud to see that our graduates take over leading positions in well-known firms along the entire process chain of real estate and construction, many of them within the network of companies associated with us. Many of our students benefit from the cooperation with the Liverpool John Moores University. Thus they gain a Master of Engineering in Stuttgart and a Master of Business Administration in Liverpool within less than two years – a unique synergy. We live these principles and visions with passion and we share them with our students in a very familiar atmosphere. We believe that this is the foundation of the continuously increasing success of the International Project Management master programme."
