Application / Admission

Deadline for application

  • 15th of June

Programme start

  • The programme always begins in the winter semester
  • Lectures begin in early October

Prerequisites for admission

  • An above-average degree qualification (min. grade: 2.5) in a creative subject gained on a programme with a standard duration of at least three years at a German or comparable overseas university; permissible programmes include interior design, architecture and other disciplines focusing on spatial design
  • Very good German skills (a DSH average of 2 or a TestDaF average of 4, only required in the case of applicants whose mother tongue is not German)
  • Good English language skills
  • An internship of at least 8 weeks in duration in a relevant discipline; the internship must be completed by the start of lectures in the first semester and be spent in an office whose activities focus on spatial design .

Applications for admission

Applications for admission to the IMIAD programme are to be filled out online. Once filled out, the form is to be printed out and submitted along with the following documents by the aforementioned deadline for application:

  • Portfolio
    • Clearly presented projects and samples of work drawn up as part of either undergraduate studies or professional work (where applicable)
    • To be submitted in printed form, min. format DIN A4, max. format DIN A3
    • No CDs or originals
  • Curriculum vitae in tabular form (including a photo of the candidate)
  • Covering letter explaining the motivation behind the candidate’s application in German and English (max. 1 side of DIN A4 paper each)
  • Certificate awarded further to the successful completion of an undergraduate programme (certificates of overseas qualifications must be accompanied by a certified German translation) or a certified list of all grades achieved during an undergraduate programme (with the exception of the final grade)
  • Certificate of eligibility to study at a university (certificates of overseas qualifications must be accompanied by a certified German translation)
  • Evidence of completion of the aforementioned internship or comparable practical experience; if evidence cannot be provided along with the candidate’s application, it is to be submitted by the start of lectures in the first semester at the latest
  • Documents confirming vocational qualifications (where applicable)
  • Documents confirming professional work (where applicable)

 

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR OVERSEAS APPLICANTS


Overseas applicants are also to provide the following documents:

  • Evidence of the requisite German language skills (a DSH average of 2 or a TestDaF average of 4, only required in the case of applicants whose mother tongue is not German)
  • Confirmation of eligibility issued by Studienkolleg Konstanz - Center for International Students (www.htwg-konstanz.de/Applying-to-ASK.2665.0.html).

About the Studienkolleg Konstanz

Please note that the Studienkolleg Konstanz - Center for International Students has its own deadlines until when documents can be submitted for validation. To apply for the winter semester, you need to submit your documents to the Studienkolleg Konstanz until May 1st by the latest. You need to be aware that processing time of your documents may take 2-3 weeks. During the months of December and January as well as May, June, July you should expect an even longer processing time since the Studienkolleg has to process many applications at that time.
When sending your documents to the Studienkolleg Konstanz, you already need to present your evidence of German language skills. Therefore you need to get your language certificate even before sending your documents for validation.

Therefore: start your application process well ahead in time! We cannot accept incomplete applications!
