Short description   <<

A degree in practical Mathematics has been possible at the HFT Stuttgart since 1970. The aim of the degree is to convey a solid mathematical education in theoretical and applied mathematics and also advanced skills in the minor subject of IT and in a special profile. You can choose from the profiles of finance and insurance mathematics and industrial mathematics.

Structure of the programme <<

In the first two semesters, the foundation course, basic mathematics and IT contents are taught. The foundation course is completed with the Bachelor pre-examination.

At the start of the main course, apart from advanced lectures in mathematics and IT, lectures from the selected profile are also taken. In the profile finance and insurance mathematics, apart from lectures in this subject area, lectures and seminars in statistics, operations research, business management and law are also part of the curriculum. The profile of industrial mathematics is dedicated to topics from geometrical modelling, graphical data processing, image processing and computer aided design.

The degree is supplemented by the supervised practical study project, in which the previously acquired knowledge is implemented and deepened. The supervised practical study project will be carried out in a company in Germany or abroad.

At the end of the degree, a practical problem from the areas of mathematics or the profile should be independently worked on using scientific methods, in the scope of the Bachelor thesis. Due to the good contacts of the Mathematics programme with industry and economy the majority of final papers have been completed in companies in the past.

General university entrance qualification or subject related university entrance qualification or University of Applied Sciences entrance qualification.

Good requirements for a successful degree are: interest in mathematical problems, communication skills, perseverance and a good grade in mathematics.
