Short description / programme Profile

The bachelor programme in Business Management is practically oriented and based on the principle of entrepreneurship. It therefore emphasizes the ability to think and act in the interests of corporate success. The theory taught by experienced professors is supplemented by practical insights provided by tutors from the business world. Students spend a practical semester at a company (the Supervised Practical Study Project) and can also opt to spend an additional year abroad by taking the Emerging Markets pathway (Bachelor Plus). Languages (English and Spanish or Chinese) are another important, integrated element of the Business Management programme.

Programme structure & schedule

The programme combines an all-round education throughout the field of business management with a clear profile in a particular area of specialization.

Students spend the first two semesters gaining a grounding in the fundamentals of business management and economics. They also acquire knowledge in the fields of financial mathematics and statistics and begin learning a second foreign language (either Spanish or Chinese).

The specialization phase runs for four semesters and includes the Supervised Practical Study Project. Students choose four from a total of nine advanced modules in order to create a study profile which fits their personal interests and career goals. The following profiles are available: Strategy & Organization, Finance, Industry & Technology and General Management.

This phase of the programme builds on knowledge gained during the first year, intensifies language learning and teaches students important transferrable skills. Some lectures and seminars are held in English.

The 6th and final semester sees students write their dissertations (period available: two months) and participate in a dissertation colloquium. Dissertation topics are generally selected and researched in cooperation with a company. Students who pass all modules – thereby gaining a minimum of 180 CP – graduate as a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Business Management.

Business students at HFT Stuttgart can also opt to take the Emerging Markets pathway (Bachelor Plus). The pathway is geared towards Spanish- and Chinese-speaking economic areas. In addition to the standard 6-semester B.A. programme students spend an extra year of study at selected partner universities in Scotland, Spain, Mexico and Taiwan. Students who opt for this pathway graduate with 240 CP after their year abroad.
